For years, the Air Max 1 sat on the sidelines while other Air Max models like the 90 and 97 basked in the limelight. But that all changed in 2023, as Nike decided it was time to roll out the OG Air Max again, in colorways both original and new. Lucky for us, that trend will continue into the new year, starting with the Nike Air Max 1 “White Black” in early January.

This take on the ’87 running sneaker features a white mesh base with “Pure Platinum” suede overlays on the midfoot and heel panels. Black Swoosh overlays take up real estate on the lateral and medial sides, which match the sneaker’s suede mudguards. The sockliners, as well as the embroidered Nike Air logos on the heels, are done in black, too.

Down below, the Nike Air Max 1 “White Black” boasts a crisp white foam midsole unit with visible Max Air windows in the heels. Black rubber outsole units bring it all together.

Will you be looking to grab a pair? The Nike Air Max 1 “White Black” will be available on Monday, January 1st, both in-store and online at DTLR.com for a retail price of $140.

The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Collection is more than just a showcase of iconic footwear silhouettes – it's a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and compassion. The Doernbecher Freestyle XIX Collection, presented by Nike in partnership with Oregon Health and Sciences University Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, is not just a celebration of style but a meaningful initiative that has been making a difference since its inception.

The Doernbecher Freestyle project is not your typical sneaker release; it's a unique partnership that has raised over $33 million for the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital since 2004. As of now, the total amount raised has nearly reached an impressive $37 million. This initiative stands as a shining example of how the world of fashion and philanthropy can come together to create something truly impactful.

This latest collection features six distinct silhouettes, each brought to life by the creative vision of a Doernbecher patient-designer. The lineup includes an Air Jordan 3, a Nike Dunk High, a Nike Go FlyEase, a Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low, a Nike Cortez, and a Nike Air Max 1 ’86.

What sets these sneakers apart is not just their design but the story behind each pair. Created by six Doernbecher Hospital patients, these shoes are more than fashion statements – they are reflections of individual passions, life experiences, medical journeys, and personal relationships. The patient-designers worked closely with a team of Nike product experts who volunteered their time and expertise to bring these designs to life, ensuring that each pair is adorned with intricate details, hidden messages, and unexpected color palettes.

The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle XIX collection is set to release on Saturday, December 2nd, at select DTLR stores. Don’t be late.
